In addition to donating, volunteering at 1st Way Life Center is a powerful way to make a real difference in the lives of women and families during some of their most vulnerable moments. Whether you offer a listening ear, help with administrative tasks, mentor young parents, or assist with community outreach, your time and compassion can bring hope and encouragement when it’s needed most. By giving just a few hours of your time, you become a vital part of a mission that supports life, dignity, and love in your community!
Questions & Answers
A: Most volunteers try to commit to a weekly shift of 3-4 hours (but we are flexible!). However, we do have opportunities for special projects that don’t involve weekly commitments – such as helping with event planning, community outreach, maintenance of the building, IT assistance, graphic design, etc. No matter your time limitations, we have a spot for you!
A: 1st Way is currently open Monday-Thursday from 9am to 4pm and Fridays 9am to noon…so the shifts would fall during those hours. However, we are hoping to expand to 6pm at least one evening a week if we have the volunteers to staff it.
A: Volunteers at 1st Way end up wearing many hats – all in one day! Generally, we have two types of volunteers: those who are comfortable meeting with clients and those who prefer to stay more behind the scenes. If you are comfortable serving the clients, you may meet with them one-on-one and do a new client intake, help connect them with community resources, take them through our baby boutique to gather the items they need, help run a client event, or simply just lend a listening ear. If you prefer to stay more behind the scenes, we always need help sorting through donations, organizing our store, tidying up the center, stuffing envelopes, etc. If you’re computer-savvy, there’s also administrative work to be done!
A: No experience necessary – we will provide the training needed! Just bring a friendly face, positive attitude, and compassionate heart.
A: IT and graphic design! We ALWAYS need help with IT issues. We would love to have an IT person that we could call for assistance when the need arises. As for graphic design – you don’t need to be a professional (although that would be great!). We’re just looking for someone who has experience with Canva and an artistic eye to create things like flyers, social media graphics, etc.
A: Throughout the year we have events or needs that require the help of a group of volunteers. Whether it’s assisting at a fundraising event, manning a table at the county fair, spring cleaning, painting, or assembling gift bags – we can find a task for your group!
